NFL Week 2

So, week one in the NFL was awfully strange. There were definitely some surprises, some let downs and some obvious big time scorers. I don't see anything changing this week with a lot of great match-ups for certain teams. This is a brand new blog, so I'm going to start slow by simply putting the top 5 players at each respective position. When/if the blog grows I will continue to increase my fantasy "expertise" and get more in depth. There are a lot of places to go out there for help with your fantasy team, so I've collected a lot of information from different places and mixed it up with my own personal opinion. Here we go..

Quarterbacks:
1. Aaron Rodgers - This may come as a surprise to a lot of people, but I don't think Drew Brees will put up anywhere close to the points he did last week. The Eagles' defense is stout and will contain Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers is facing a soft Cincinnati seconday.

2. Matt Hasselback - He looked sharp against the Rams, but that isn't really saying too much. The 49ers have a solid defense, but they have moments where they can be exploited for huge plays. I see Hasselback having another week like last week.

3. Drew Brees - So he only dropped 2 spots, but he is still going to be a high scorer. I'm projecting him in the 22-25 range. My only major concern is that the Saints will have no running game, so it may make them play one dimensional, which will be bad for Brees. He's a sure bet starter no matter who he is playing, but don't expect another 40+ game this week.

4. Tony Romo - A lot of people expected Romo to have a lousy season with no T.O. A lot of people don't know the game of football either. Tony has been at his best when he was able to spread the ball around, which is his exact situation right now. No distractions. Not to mention he always seems to step up his game against the G-Men. Pretty big game from Romo.

5. TIE Matt Ryan/Trent Edwards - This spot was a bit tricky for me. If you have both of these guys on your roster then I don't envy the decision you have to make this week. Trent Edwards is playing against a Tampa Bay secondary that got SCORCHED by Dallas last week. Trent Edwards also has T.O. and Lee Evans on his wideouts. I think Edwards is gonna light it up. Matt Ryan is playing against a very exposed Carolina defense. Carolina is known for their good defense, but something just doesn't sit well with me right now. With the addition of Tony Gonzales and the running game of Michael Turner, I see Matt Ryan having a field day.

Running Back:
1. Adrian Peterson - Really? Against the Lions? Has Favre really done anything to make this team better? A.P. is carrying this team on his shoulders and I believe he's going to carry them into the endzone..a few times.

2. Thomas Jones - Richard Seymour is gone. Mayo is out with an injury. Thomas Jones is free to run where he'd like. I know this isn't a pick 'em blog, but Jets are going to run away with this one.

3. Ryan Grant - They're playing Cinci and I think they're going to score early and score fast. If that happens they'll take the game to the ground and let Ryan Grant control the clock. Even when he isn't scoring garbage time points he'll still be very productive. Big time game from Grant.

4. Clinton Portis - They have a chip on their shoulder and they're playing the Rams. Next.

5. Michael Turner - Playing a Carolina defense that couldn't stop the run even if they knew the play.

Wide Receiver:
1. Greg Jennings - Playing Cinci.. Feel like I'm repeating myself..

2. Reggie Wayne - Miaim's defense is definitely getting better, but they're not there yet. They still have some minor improvements to make and I don't think they'll be able to stop the Manning to Wayne connection. Big game for the Colts.

3. Larry Fitzgerald - They suffered a nasty loss. They're playing with a chip on their shoulder. Anquan Boldin isn't quite a 100%, but much further along than he was last week. They won't be able to focus just on Fitzgerald this week and that should open some things up.

4. Calvin Johnson - Yeah, he plays on the Lions. I get it. But Matthew Stafford isn't such a bad quarterback that you automatically rule out Johnson. They are going to be playing far from behind, so they're going to need to score quick. How do you do that? You throw the ball to Calvin Johnson. The end.

5. Roy E. Williams - My surprise pick for this group of receivers. Even with all the speculation of him not being able to be a legit #1 WR he produced double digit points. The Cowboys are going to have to rely on him on some redzone scores with his big frame and sure hands, so I see him scoring at least 2 touchdowns.

Tight End:
1. Tony Gonzales - The name really says it all.

2. Jason Witten - Same thing for Witten.

3. Antonio Gates - With LT banged up, they're going to have to find other ways to produce some offense. Sure, Vincent Jackson is a good receiver and Sproles is fiery, but Antonio Gates is your safety blanket. He'll score at LEAST one touchdown.

4. Zach Miller - It seemed to me like the only WR Russel knows how to throw to accurately is Zach Miller. And they're playing the Chiefs. Miller should have a fine and dandy game.

5. Jeremy Shockey - This was a tough decision for me to make. I wanted to go with John Carlson, but considering the tough defense New Orleans is facing, I figure Brees would hit his tight end more often than not. Shockey should put up some good numbers this week.

I'm going to stay away from Defense and Kickers because they are such a toss up and it isn't even really worth the time. I'm going to write a follow up blog after all the games are over to see how I did with my ranking system. For the record.. My main goal is to predict the top 5 at each position, not necessarily the exact spot they'll end up. If I happen to nail them in at the dead on ranking then right on! So, if Adrian Peterson ends up being the No. 5 running back this week I still consider it a victory and you should too! Well, you should too if you listened to my advice, at least.
